1. Becomes WWE's 'Elder Statesman'
Ever since his feud with The Rock concluded, John Cena has played a myriad of roles on WWE television. Of course, he has regularly appeared in the main event scene, but the past year has been very interesting for the man. Stepping out of the spotlight for periods, Cena has worked with talent further down the ladder, boosting several in the process. The likes of Rusev and Kevin Owens directly benefited from working WWE United States Title programs with the man in 2015. It was during his rivalry with the Bulgarian star that Cena started to be treated differently by the creative team. Instead of being portrayed as just a top star in the company, the man was said to be almost an ambassador for the promotion. Eyes widened when Michael Cole uttered on commentary that John Cena was the 'elder statesman' of World Wrestling Entertainment. This was done to try and establish Cena as part of the furniture in WWE, a constant presence who didn't always need to be in the World Title picture. At least for a while, it worked, but it'll be interesting to see how WWE evolve John Cena going forward. What other moments do you feel helped John Cena evolve as a performer?
