10 Impossible Wrestling Teases That Almost Happened

4. Hulk Hogan VS Steve Austin

When it comes to the classic question of who belongs on the “Mount Rushmore of Wrestling”, two shoe-in names are Hulk Hogan and Stone Cold.

So the story goes that WWE approached Austin about facing Hogan at WrestleMania X8 in a clash between the two biggest babyfaces the company had ever booked. However, the Rattlesnake turned down the opportunity because he didn’t think it could deliver and, presumably, because he didn’t want to lay down for the Hulkster. Of course, Hogan felt the same way about Austin.

Instead, The Rock took up the spot in what is often regarded as one of the most noteworthy showdowns in ‘Mania history.

However, that doesn’t mean that WWE didn’t tease fans with the possibility of their original plan. After Monday Night Raw went off the air on April 22nd, a month after The Show of Shows, Hogan and Austin sent the crowd home happy - and very, very excited.

After the Hulkster ripped a can of beer from Austin’s hands rather forcefully the two had a quiet moment where they locked eyes before, eventually, laughing it off and celebrating together.

Unfortunately, this amounted to nothing, with Austin wrapping his career up (for 19 years) at the following year’s WrestleMania. Hogan and Austin remains one of the biggest “what ifs” in wrestling history.
