10 Improvements WWE Have Already Made In The New Era
4. More Focus On Wrestling
Watching a typical episode of Raw or SmackDown, it’s often easy to forget that WWE is supposed to be a wrestling company first and foremost, such is the focus on interviews and segments. Things got particularly bad earlier in the year, when each and every show would open with at least 20-30 minutes of Stephanie McMahon, Triple H, and whoever else repeating the exact same speech they’d delivered last week, over and over and over…
While both shows opened with the authority figures addressing their roster, the wrestling/segments balances took a huge swing in the right direction this week. Raw, for example, featured a total of 77 minutes worth of in-ring action. For a three-hor show that includes multiple ad breaks and backstage transitions, that’s a huge portion, and the majority of the matches were exciting, focused, and meaningful.
Engaging storylines and characters are vital, of course, but they should exist to supplement the matches, not overshadow them. Raw in-particular had reached a point where it was more of a talk show than a wrestling event, and it’s good to see the company finally making the best use of their multi-talented roster.
