10 Incredible Wrestling Stats You Won't Believe
8. WWE's Largest Non PPV Attendance Is Over 60,000
Held at the Canadian National Exhibition Centre in 1986, over 60,000 people flocked to see the huge main event between WWF Champion, Hulk Hogan, and bitter rival, Paul Orndorff. The attendance was an outdoor record at the time and the largest gathering for a WWF event ever. However, WrestleMania III obliterated that figure less than a year later.
With such a huge crowd on hand, luckily The Big Event didn't disappoint. The crowd ate up every moment of the title bout as the action unfolded. Meanwhile, inside the ring the physicality was notoriously stiff. Hogan himself has cited the bout as one of the most intense battles of his career.
The attendance figure recorded at The Big Event remains the largest non-PPV attendance in WWE history, followed by the huge Global Warning event in Australia's Colonial Stadium from 2002 (which drew an impressive figure of over 56,000 fans).
Outside of special events, WWE also drew a huge 33,000 to the Georgia Dome for an episode of Raw in October 1999. They did similar business when they returned to the venue in February 2000, drawing over 27,000. However, this figure still pales in comparison to WCW's famous Nitro from '98, which attracted over 41,000 fans.
