10 Incredible Wrestling Title Wins (…That Led To RUBBISH Reigns)
6. Chris Sabin: TNA World Heavyweight Championship
There was little allure to anything TNA produced between 2010 and 2018 - and that's why this Chris Sabin victory is still striking.
In a manner not unlike Lex Luger, Chris Sabin's ascendancy came at the expense of the oppressive Aces & Eights faction, headed by defending World Heavyweight Champion, Bully Ray. The latest of a series of nWo-esque ripoffs, the Bully-fronted faction embodied The nWo if Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, and friends developed a sudden fascination with bikers, while Chris Sabin, embodying his best Lex Luger impersonation, bested Ray at 2013's Destination X. Aided by a second coming of The Main Event Mafia, Sabin's victory was deserving of its surprisingly whopping reaction, providing a distinguished moment for TNA in its most battered state.
Sabin's win brought the otherwise disinclined audience to life. The Detroit native being chosen to end this arc of the Aces & Eights storyline - disputably its most integral - was a selection predicted by few, given his career-long status as a mid-carder, so for him to lift the gold was a glance into the shabby management team moving the right way.
It was meaningful, weighty, and a substantial change away from a stagnant product - so naturally, Bully Ray regained the title one month later.
LolTNA indeed.
