10 Incredible WWE Hardcore Title Matches You Need To See

7. Rob Van Dam Vs. Jeff Hardy - Ladder Match - SummerSlam 2001

Rob Van Dam versus Jeff Hardy was a natural matchup to present during the Invasion. RVD was one of the most innovative, original and popular stars in ECW while Jeff Hardy was one of the most innovative, original and popular stars in the WWF. They both favoured a high-flying style and had extensive experience in gimmick matches too. Their first match, at Invasion, was the match of the night and one of the most exciting WWF matches of the year. So fans rejoiced when the WWF announced a rematch the following month at SummerSlam. This time it would be fought under Ladder Match rules. Fans predicted that Hardy and Van Dam could/would have one of the best ladder matches of all time. They didn't quite reach those heights, but they did have a very, very good match. It was a little contrived at times, with Van Dam more concerned about showing his creativity than actually going for the belt, but there were some brutal bumps in it. Highlights included a huge sunset flip powerbomb and superplex from the top of the ladder. The two men would have another great ladder match a year later on Raw which Van Dam won unifying the Intercontinental and European Titles.
