10 Indie Stars Who Were Supposed To Be The Next Big Thing

3. Trent Acid

Trent Acid was a wrestler who many people felt would be a big singles star, even he primarily wrestled in tag matches. Acid, alongside partner Johnny Kashmere, formed The Backseat Boyz, one of the most notable indie tag teams of the 2000s. Together, the two men had many wild matches in Combat Zone Wrestling and ROH. Although their wrestling was not to everyone's tastes (CZW is celebrated by its fans for its ultraviolet, garbage brawls and loathed by its detractors for the same reasons), Acid's grungey charisma was evident. He was an innovative worker (with a good look) who came up with many wholly unique sequences and moves. He also had a drug problem, openly admitting his addiction to heroin and other narcotics. Acid was arrested on April 2nd 2010, for possession. A trial was arranged for July 13th. He never made it to that trial, dying of a drug overdose on June 18th. He was 29 years old. Acid was tipped, at one point, as someone who could have been a Jeff Hardy-like cult hero. He had his fans and his supporters and many genuinely thought he could outrun his demons and be a success in wrestling.
