10 Infamous UFC Bar Fights
From bats to batterings.
All too often, consuming large quantities of alcohol and engaging in a fistfight go hand and hand. Of course, for both health and legal reasons, it's usually best to avoid barroom (or any other type of) brawls whenever possible. This is especially true when the other combatant happens to be a professional mixed martial artist.
However, over the years, there have been a number of bargoers, bouncers, and local drunks who decided to test themselves against some of the sport's biggest stars. As one might expect, tangling with a former or current UFC fighter is almost always a very bad idea.
That being said, these fights have made for some great (and occasionally disturbing) stories involving some of the biggest names in the sport.
Since many of these conflicts happened several years back, after an alcohol-fueled evening, some of the details are likely embellished, and there are sometimes conflicting accounts. Still, these now-infamous melees were at worst entertaining and, at best, serve as cautionary tales.
With that in mind, here are ten scraps involving UFC fighter that took place outside the Octagon.
10. The Randy Couture Baseball Bat Incident
Dan Henderson and Randy 'The Natural' Couture both had legendary careers in the sport of mixed martial arts. Prior to that, the future UFC stars were accomplished, amateur wrestlers.
Back in 1995, the two had just made the prestigious Greco-Roman (wrestling) world team, and so they decided to go out to celebrate at a nightclub in suburban Atlanta.
According to Couture, while exiting the bar, the former UFC champ leaned against a car to tie his shoelace. Apparently, a group of four men inside the bar didn't like 'The Natural' touching the vehicle, stepped outside, then demanded the Greco-Roman standout leave the car alone.
Couture noticed one of the individuals had a baseball bat, decided to disarm him, and would end up chasing the man back into the bar with the weapon in hand. Fortunately, for both men, the bargoer was able to get away.
When the future MMA star returned, he found his teammate Dan Henderson with his shirt off on top of one of the other men, who he had apparently taken down. At that point, the two decided to exit the scene.
Apparently, the wrestlers had a lot to drink the night the altercation occurred and unknowingly went back to the same location the following evening.
They were soon met by a group of security guards and told to exit the venue. Surprised, Couture asked why they were being booted, when one of the security members informed him that he had entered the club the previous night with a baseball bat in hand.
