10 Jaw-Dropping Answers To Wrestling Open Challenges
7. Guilty As Charged
At
ECW’s final pay-per-view, Guilty As Charged 2001, Sandman won the World
Heavyweight Championship in a TLC against Steve Corino and Justin Credible. Immediately
after the match, Rhyno destroyed Sandman to capture the title. Rhyno’s manager
Cyrus then issued an open challenge to anyone brave enough to step into the
ring with the Man Beast.
Rob
Van Dam answered the challenge, seeking revenge for being injured by Rhyno and
subsequently having to relinquish his Television Title. It was a pleasant surprise
for the ECW fans because RVD hadn’t been advertised and hadn’t appeared at any
events in the past few months due to issues with ECW owner Paul Heyman.
However,
the payoff to RVD’s chase would never come because arch rival Jerry Lynn attacked
him from behind, igniting an impromptu match.
