10 Lamest Swerves In WWE History
6. Vince McMahon's Illegitimate Son
Hornswoggle was at the heart of a number of terrible WWE storylines throughout his run with the company, with this pay-off serving as one of his worst moments. In summer 2007, corporate stooge Jonathan Coachman informed Mr. McMahon of a paternity suit regarding an illegitimate, long-lost child. This sent McMahon into a tailspin, and it was soon revealed that his son was a male member of the current WWE roster.
WWE spent the next few weeks teasing the identity of Shane and Stephanie’s long lost brother, and Hornswoggle, WWE’s resident comedy leprechaun, was unveiled on 10 September. The following months doomed Raw to an endless series of “tough love” segments between Vince and his unwanted son, with the angle coming to a merciful end in February 2008, when it was revealed that Hornswoggle wasn’t Vince’s son after all.
This could all have been avoided had Mr. Kennedy not failed a drug test, however. Kennedy was the first man to proclaim himself Vince’s son, but incurred a 30-day suspension for violating the company’s Wellness Policy shortly after. The original payoff would have had Kennedy unveiled as the son all along, resulting in a huge main event push for the newest member of the McMahon bloodline, but we got the Hornswoggle shambles instead.
