2. The Show Won’t Be A Sell-out

Choosing to stage the show at the Alamodome—with its 60,000-plus capacity—was always going to be a bold move on the part of WWE.

At the time of writing, tickets sales have been estimated at around 40,000 (per Meltzer in this week’s Observer) which all-but confirms that show won’t be a total sell-out. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that the Alamodome experiment will go down as an abject failure.

Besides, back in 1997 when they first ran the Rumble in the San Antonio stadium, though they announced an attendance of over 62,000, the actual number of paying attendees was 48,014. With this year’s sales already in that sort of ballpark, and with the potential for WWE to give out a number of comped tickets—as they did in 1997—the arena may be close to capacity.

Either way, here’s hoping for a decent crowd at Sunday’s show—something that’s been a bit of a touchy subject for WWE when it comes to Royal Rumbles of recent years...
