Undoubtedly, the biggest would-be WrestleMania main event in WWE history.

The much anticipated and long-awaited battle of the titans, WWF Champion vs. NWA/WCW Champion, Hulk Hogan vs. Ric Flair was actually advertised for WrestleMania VIII. The match graphic aired on WWE programming and it was set for the main event at the Hoosier Dome on April 5, 1992.

So why didn't it happen?

Some WWE executives believe it was scrapped due to a lack of ticket sales when the two wrestled on the house show circuit in the Fall of '91, others believe it was more politically-driven in that neither Hogan nor Flair could agree on a finish, some have even suggested that Vince simply wanted to move on from Hogan due to the damage his reputation had suffered in the media by 1992.

And yet, another theory is that, during negotiations to sign Sid in the Summer of '91, Vince McMahon promised Sid the WrestleMania main event spot against Hogan, perhaps as part of his contract. These negotiations would've been prior to Vince's sudden coup of Ric Flair and thus, is believable to think that Vince could've made Sid such a deal.

Whatever the case may be, WrestleMania VIII featured a double main-event and Hogan vs. Flair was replaced with Hogan vs. Sid Justice and Flair vs. Randy Savage.

The greatest opportunity to present this iconic dream match had come and gone with no payoff.
