10 Lessons Learned From Attending WWE NXT TakeOver London

8. The Hype Bros Are Not Over In England

As mentioned in the previous slide, the night kicked off with two dark matches. The first was a four corners tag match pitting Gable & Jordan vs The Vaudevillains vs Blake & Murphy vs The Hype Bros. Each team received the welcomes that I would have expected, apart from one. Blake & Murphy came out to vague disdain (with a pop for Alexa Bliss), The Vaudevillain were loudly cheered, Gable & Jordan even more so (more on that later), but Hype Bros, ostensibly marketed as a lovable babyface team, were destroyed by the London crowd. The boos were Eva Marie-level and I don't say that lightly. The man next to me said, "I don't know why we're doing this," then joined the booing with all his might. Don't get me wrong, the Hype Bros are more than a little lame - their fratboy schtick is eye-roll worthy and Mojo Rawley looks like the kind of hyperactive nuisance that would ruin your birthday party - but you would have thought that perennially put-upon Zack Ryder would have received some sympathy from an underdog-loving crowd. Nope, the audience pulled that underdog's legs off. When Gable was blind-tagged out of the match by Rawley, I was briefly worried that we'd see a riot worthy of Cleveland after Ox Baker kept heart-punching Ernie Ladd (look it up, it's unbelievable), so strong were the boos raining down on the two, quotes "babyfaces".
