10 Little Known Things You Didn't Know About SummerSlam

8. Hogan's Record Absence Between Matches

Hulk Hogan has quite a unique achievement in relation to SummerSlam, going fourteen years without appearing on the event. It's pretty crazy to think that he main evented in 1991, disappeared from WWF television for two eras, then came straight back into the main event at 2005 where he closed the show against Shawn Michaels. It's impressive and proof of the Hulkster's lasting legacy. People talk about being 'over' in wrestling, but Hogan operates at an entirely higher sphere of fame. Very few can boast the kind of longevity to have headlined SummerSlam events in three different decades. You might not like Hogan, but you can't deny his drawing power. The reason for his mega absence was of course his WCW run. Hogan didn't believe the WWF had a future, so he headed off to WCW in the early 90's. He eventually returned to WWE in 2002, before finally returning to SummerSlam in 2005.
