10 Little Known Things You Didn't Know About SummerSlam
9. TLC Was A SummerSlam Innovation, Not A WrestleMania First
A major misconception has developed in regards to WWE's TLC match. Many fans believe that the first TLC was at WrestleMania 2000, in the spectacular match between Edge and Christian vs The Dudley Boyz vs The Hardy Boyz. That wasn't a TLC match. It was a triangle ladder match for the tag team titles. The first official TLC match actually came later that year, SummerSlam 2000, when the same three teams fought in a staggeringly spot filled contest. The reason fans connect TLC more with WrestleMania is understandable. The Mania 2000 ladder match basically was a TLC in all but name. Remember how Jeff Hardy swantoned off the top of a ladder and through Bubba Ray on a table? It was very TLC in nature! The myth of TLC being a Mania match was then made stronger a year later, when TLC 2 wowed the audience at WrestleMania 17. As a result of all that, history remembered TLC with Mania connotations around the memories. The truth is that it was a SummerSlam first, an overwhelming highlight of the August 2000 event.
