10 Live Observations From WWE SmackDown In St. Paul

Desecrating a corpse = babyface reaction.

After attending dozens of live wrestling events in my time, from WCW to ROH to TNA to WWE house shows and pay-per-views, I finally attended my first SmackDown. How did it go? Well, it was probably the least exciting show from a major promotion I’ve ever been to. After all, the main event featured Apollo Crews and Dolph Ziggler in a chairs match, and then we watched a video of Randy Orton burning the corpse of Bray Wyatt’s sister. Just some good old fashioned entertainment!

I attended Monday Night in Oct., which took place in Minneapolis, MN (St. Paul, where SmackDown aired, is across the river). Maybe it was just my section of the building, but it seems there were more kids on-hand for SmackDown than for Raw. That could be due to John Cena and Dean Ambrose being at the show (who kids seemed to love), or maybe it's due to the show ending at 9 PM (even though 205 Live airs right now).

Overall, the audience's interested seemed to die off during the third hour at Raw, while SmackDown held the crowd's interest for the most part throughout. None of the matches delivered in a memorable way, though, the show certainly ended on a newsworthy...and disturbing note.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW.
