10 Live Observations From WWN Mercury Rising 2016

2. ZSJ Is MVP

WWN put on a lot of shows this weekend, and while I can't speak for the ones I didn't see, the ones I attended - EVOLVE 58, EVOLVE 59, and Mercury Rising - were excellent. I ended up leaving the shows feeling like I had truly seen the best of wrestling, and extremely grateful that EVOLVE regularly runs shows in my home of Queens. Still, as good as everything was, there can be only one MVP, and that was Zack Sabre Jr. The best technical wrestler in the world was on full display, and his consistently excellent performances were impossible to ignore. Sabre first had what will likely end up as the best match of the entire weekend, defeating Will Ospreay at EVOLVE 58. At EVOLVE 59, he had a great submission-based battle against Matt Riddle, falling short in the end. Sabre also lost to Chris Hero at Mercury Rising, but that match was excellent, as well. There's been a lot of speculation regarding Sabre's future, as many have wondered if he'll be working with WWE past the Global Cruiserweight Series. Wherever the British star ends up, though, whomever signs him is very lucky.
