The undeniable star of the first nine WrestleManias, Hulk Hogan was absent for the next nine, running roughshod over WCW in between stealing Bret Hart's spotlight at WrestleMania IX and stealing The Rock's spotlight at WrestleMania X8. He would have one more 'Mania match the next year, the same night that Brock Lesnar would nearly break his neck in the main event. To the surprise of many, the Next Big Thing would himself leave the company after his infamous match against Goldberg at WrestleMania XX. Nine years and a massive UFC career later, The Beast Incarnate was back, being put in his place by Triple H in a never-ending No-Holds Barred clash at WrestleMania 29.

With Cyndi Lauper involved, Women's Champion Leilani Kai Vs. Wendi Richter at WrestleMania I was one of the biggest matches on the show. Kai's return at WrestleMania X to lose to Alundra Blayze was comprehensively not.

When the WWF put together the Gimmick Battle Royal at WrestleMania X-Seven, they raided the WrestleMania VIII card for talent. Tugboat - as Typhoon - got a countout victory over tag champs Money Inc. that night, whilst Sgt. Slaughter and the Repo Man were on opposing sides of an eight-man tag. All three returned nine years later to be thrown over the top rope.
