10 Longest Reigning ECW World Heavyweight Champions
2. Raven - 252 Days
Is there a more compelling professional wresting character in history than Raven? After a fairly forgettable stint as Johnny Polo in early 90s WWF, Scott Levy completely changed his persona and came up with Raven, a nihilistic socially ostracised weirdo who proceeded to cut some of the best promos in the history of the game. Two of Raven's rivalries are recognised as two of the finest in ECW history. The first was against Tommy Dreamer, with the second coming against The Sandman. The beef with Sandman would see Raven pick up his first ECW World Heavyweight Championship by defeating his foe, thanks largely to his Raven's Nest stable. Raven would hold the belt for a whopping 252 days, defeating challengers such as Shane Douglas, Chris Jericho and 2 Cold Scorpio along the way. He was also another champion who lost the belt without being involved. Not too long after the infamous angle where Sandman was 'crucified', Raven no-showed an event where he was scheduled to defend the title in a tag match, teaming with Brian Lee against Dreamer and Sandman. Stevie Richards replaced Raven, Stevie Richards took the loss and that was that for Raven's longest title reign.
Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
