In a beautiful piece of symmetry, the two men who held the European title the most times also had exactly the same length of longest reign at 63 days. D-Lo Brown comes ahead of Regal on the list though, not only alphabetically but also because I don't think there was an individual who did more for the strap.

Bigger names may have held it, but none were more synonymous with it than D-Lo Brown. He also would be billed from a different European country every week, which is the sort of nuance I really love in wrestling.

His longest reign was his first, which began by defeating Triple H on RAW in July 1998. 63 days later, his run would come to an end at the hands of Triple H's running buddy, X-Pac.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
