Eddie Guerrero vs the newly rebranded heel John Bradshaw Layfield at Judgment Day 2004 is mostly remembered for one brutal incident.

About halfway through their excellent World Title match, JBL strikes Eddie with a brutal chair shot to the head, causing him to slump over near the commentators' desk. Eddie does a blade job and cuts far too deep, lacerating his forehead severely and causing blood to leak out of his skull at a rapid rate. The amount of blood would ensure that the PPV would be rated Adults Only, and it remains possibly the most sickening example of bleeding in WWE history.

However, what goes overlooked is how the blade job affected the rest of the match. JBL completely transformed his performance as a worker in response to it, applying a deep sleeper hold and forcing more crimson out, battering the bloody champion until it looked like he couldn't move. The combination of the blood flow and JBL's subsequent decimation meant that Eddie's comeback felt genuinely seismic, like he was resisting against the forces of nature with every strike.

It's one of the best matches of its era and should be remembered as more than just a bloodbath.
