10 Lost Classic WWE Matches
4. The Usos Vs. The Wyatt Family - Battleground 2014
A contender for WWE's greatest modern tag team match, his two out of three falls between the team of The Wyatt Family and The Usos is a perfectly worked, psychologically intense masterpiece. It told a simple story of good versus evil, the honourable Usos taking on the cruel team of Luke Harper and Erick Rowan.
The Wyatt Family had only been around a year on the main roster but had already taken some major losses. While they didn't pull out the victory here, their performances here (alongside Jey and Jimmy's impeccable selling) did more to establish them as genuine terrors than any of their wins had. In particular, the match was a showcase for the brilliance of Luke Harper, whose devastating offence embedded with remarkable facial expressions helped audiences completely buy into the drama.
Like with most two out of three falls matches, the third fall is where the match truly becomes a masterpiece, with simmering tension and sensational false finishes increasing the unpredictability as the two teams got more determined/vicious to win. In victory, The Usos looked like the best tag team in the world, in defeat, The Wyatt Family still looked like the most brutal. An absolute masterpiece.
