10 Main Event Wrestling Gimmicks That NOBODY Liked

8. Supernatural Heel Edge

"Ah sh*t, Edge is blue now. That mean he's cold, and dark. Also he's saying sh*t like "omnipotence". I don't like that sacrilegious fancy talk. He thinks he's better than me. He thinks he's better than God! Man I hope AJ Styles kicks his ass. Hell, I might even buy me a ticket just to see it!"

This is what nobody said ahead of WrestleMania 38, hence why the apparent dream match played out to near-silence, but what WWE thought you were all thinking. Edge's dark, pious intellectual character of early 2022 was sh*tty; he was scripted to say stuff the writer thought was clever, but was actually nonsense, and his matches died because the fans audibly, objectively failed to connect with the character. Edge used to be entertaining at his withering firebrand best. His pretentiousness rivalled the worst of Bray Wyatt a few months ago.

You know what's gratifying?

A critic points out that something is bad. The fan of the thing that is bad accuses the critic of bias. The thing is so good, they reason, that it being labelled bad can only be an agenda.

And then the person doing the thing agrees that it's bad, as Edge did when he bemoaned the supernatural direction his character had taken.
