10 Mainstream Songs That Made Great Wrestling Entrance Themes
1. All The Things She Said By T.A.T.u (Victoria 02-04)
Thanks in no small part to the media outcry surrounding the song’s homoerotic schoolgirl-fuelled video, All the Things She Said became one of the highest selling singles of 2003. The song reached number one in the UK charts, reigning supreme for four weeks while simultaneously topping the charts in seventeen other countries.
Despite gaining notoriety in Europe and Russia, the song hadn’t really broken into America when WWE snapped up the chance to use it for Victoria’s entrance theme. Coming at a time when WWE were utilizing far more mainstream songs than they currently do, it has been reported that they were allowed the rights to such an ultimately successful song as the record companies saw WWE as the perfect way to gain traction in America.
WWE’s version of the song differs slightly from the one that went on to enjoy so much chart success. Only Lena Katina provides vocals for the track, with her band-mate completely absent from the recording. Another change saw the focus shifted to the “I think I’ve lost my mind” lyric, with it becoming the new opening line as well as a minor refrain.
The rapid synth and heavy drum beat give the track the unhinged, almost maddening, relentless feel that played into Victoria’s psychotic powerhouse character of the time beautifully. The angelic, bitter sweet vocals of Katina help add an undeniable beauty that wonderfully counteracts the more frenzied aspects of the song to create juxtaposition between beauty and danger.
Perfect for Victoria.
