10 Major Challenges Facing WWE In 2019

3. True Competition

The idea of competition in professional wrestling is a tricky topic made worse by a widespread lack of understanding of what the term actually means.

'Competition' isn't necessarily another promotion putting WWE out of business (which would take a miraculous turn of events), nor is it a new Monday Night War. Per Merriam-Webster, it is a mere 'contest between rivals.' The process of competing involves 'the effort of two or more parties acting independently to secure the business of a third party by offering the most favourable terms,' which is exactly what's going on in the sport at the moment.

For the first time in close to two decades, WWE are in direct competition with several other promotions. Their market share may only be dented, but that AEW, NJPW, and others aren't competitors is objectively false, making this an exciting time for the fans, and a challenging once for Vince McMahon and co.

The new wrestling war should make everything better, and shake WWE from the creative complacency that has plagued their product since WCW died. It's something we should all be thankful for, even those who only consume McMahon's product, though how it impacts WWE's business remains to be seen.
