10 Major Stars Who Escaped WWE Creative Jail

1. Daniel Bryan

The prison in which Daniel Bryan first found himself is a deeply familiar tale at this point; we'll instead link his record of convictions here.

Incredibly, in 2018, the year in which he returned, Bryan found himself fenced in once more. The prior two years were tumultuous for Bryan, because he never stopped believing. He refused to relinquish his dream of one day wrestling again, and, since at one point it was certain WWE would never clear him to do so in their ring, he dreamed of the CMLL Anniversary Show. He dreamed of losing his hair in a Mexican ring. He dreamed of levelling up to Zack Sabre, Jr., the man Bryan is on record as stating has advanced on his own technical breakthroughs.

He probably didn't dream of wrestling Big Cass on consecutive big show pay-per-views.

Nor did he dream of a middling programme with The Miz, a blood feud diluted through Mixed Match Challenge Synergistic Promotion, and blown off with a chance roll-up in the death slot of a C-Level pay-per-view.

Daniel Bryan broke free by exasperatedly telling Vince McMahon that he needed to turn heel to save his career. McMahon relented, afforded Bryan elusive creative control, and Bryan seized it en route to becoming an absolutely incredible villain. A hardcore leftie in America - in WWE - he has located, fittingly, a renewable resource of heat, one that he has tapped in order to elevate every second of his segments and all those he shares a ring with.

A true socialist.
