10 Major WWE Matches That Changed At The Last Second
2. Shawn Michaels vs. Dean Douglas In Your House 4
After Shawn Michaels's babyface turn in 1995, it became clear that he was WWE's next top star. He won the Intercontinental Championship for the third time, but it was clear that he'd have to lose the title before going on to compete for the WWE Championship. A match was scheduled with Shane "Dean" Douglas for In Your House 4 in Winnipeg, and while the intended finish is unknown, Michaels wouldn't be leaving with the title. Prior to the Pay-Per-View event, Michaels was involved in an altercation with an unknown number of U.S. Marines at a bar in Syracuse, leaving him severely beaten. He was not going to wrestle, but WWE didn't stop advertising him for the show. Instead, he showed up looking tearful and bruised, and forfeited the Intercontinental Championship to Douglas. It would have been a tough pill for the crowd to swallow, but Douglas was immediately forced to defend the belt against Razor Ramon. Much to the fans' delight, Ramon won his then-record fourth Intercontinental Title, capping Douglas's reign at 11 minutes. Much controversy has been made over show's events, with some arguing Michaels exaggerated the extent of his injuries to get out of losing, and others claiming that Razor's win kept the title "in the kliq," screwing Douglas over. One thing's for sure, though WWE promised one match and delivered another.
