10 Major WWE Matches That Changed At The Last Second
4. The Great Khali vs. The Undertaker Great American Bash 2006
It may sound strange now, but when The Great Khali debuted, he was pushed as a terrifying monster heel. He immediately targeted The Undertaker, all while tearing through the rest of the Smackdown roster (including World Heavyweight Champion Rey Mysterio). Though Khali was limited in his skill and mobility, it almost didn't matter at Judgment Day 2006's encounter between the two men, 'Taker bumped like Shawn Michaels for "The Punjabi Nightmare" before losing cleanly to him in a perfectly serviceable encounter. Of course, in WWE, it's not over until the bad guy gets his comeuppance. A rematch was scheduled for the Great American Bash 2006 in Khali's specialty contest the never-before-seen Punjabi Prison match. In the match, a bamboo cage surrounds the ring (with four doors that are opened on a wrestler's command, but only for 60 seconds before being shut permanently) and a larger, octagonal bamboo cage surrounds the ringside area. The first man to escape both is the winner. The announcers hyped the contest as the most brutal imaginable, but right before the Pay-Per-View, Khali was one of a number of wrestlers temporarily benched for having elevated liver enzymes. Big Show substituted for Khali, starting a mini-feud with 'Taker after a rushed backstage attack. The match itself was probably better with Khali's absence, but that was a score that still needed to be settled.
