10 Major WWE Summerslam Feuds That Flopped

10. Hulk Hogan And Brutus Beefcake vs. Randy Savage And Zeus (1989)

The mainstream notoriety that Hulk Hogan achieved as the star of Vince McMahon's then-World Wrestling Federation created opportunities for the Hulkster beyond the squared circle. One of those opportunities came in the form of the McMahon-produced film "No Holds Barred," in which Hogan played Rip, a pop culture icon of a professional wrestler whose unwillingness to sign with the evil Brell resulted in the network executive recruiting the massive Zeus to destroy the popular hero. The movie, clearly the product of the decade in which it was created, was bad but still managed to become somewhat of a cult classic with wrestling fans. Attempting to cash in on the film, McMahon introduced the Zeus character to his programming, despite actor Tiny Lister having no wrestling experience. The unstoppable force aligned himself with "Macho King" Randy Savage in the war against Hulkamania. Never one to let his best friend walk into a two-on-one beating, Brutus "the Barber" Beefcake partnered with Hogan for what was to be a huge tag team main event. Unfortunately, fans never bought into Zeus as being anything even close to a legitimate threat to the WWE champion. After all, he was an actor filling a role, something that was readily apparent every time he attempted the most basic of moves. The match was fairly atrocious and failed to live up to the match between the Mega Powers and Mega Bucks from a year earlier, most because the story made little sense.
