10 Matches WWE Could Have Booked For WrestleMania 38
5. Rey Mysterio Vs. Dominik Mysterio
Despite recent interviews where Dom attempted to stem said discussions, this match seems destined to occur before dad calls it a career.
Familial warfare and professional wrestling are inextricably linked and a proven formula, given the right storytelling, venue and audience. The Harts, The Hardys, The Guerreros... even Vince and Shane McMahon had an emotionally charged father/son Street Fight for the ages at WrestleMania X-Seven.
Considering the Mysterios’ WrestleMania 38 opponents, maybe it should’ve happened this year.
This is not to diminish The Miz, he’s a former two-time WWE Champion and two-time Grand Slam champion. However, lately, his capacity seems limited to liaison with celebrities. When former tag partner John Morrison was released last year, WWE had to scramble. After centring a flimsy “feud” on Rey Mysterio getting the cover of WWE 2k22, The Miz needed a partner to counter father and son.
Enter Logan Paul.
WWE seemingly labors under the misconception that Bad Bunny’s incredible in-ring performance at WrestleMania 37 is the rule and not the exception. Sure, Pat McAfee’s NXT run speaks for itself and Johnny Knoxville is a certifiable entertainer (emphasis on "certifiable"). But not everyone should be extended the same courtesy. The social media gadfly should’ve been kicked to the curb in favor of Dominik’s ‘sink or swim’ moment.
As for The Miz? While Kevin Owens played ‘Poke the Rattlesnake’ expertly, most would rather WWE’s quintessential antagonist eat a Stone Cold Stunner and a case of whoop-ass on MizTV: WrestleMania Edition instead.
