The Rock vs. Shawn Michaels could have been one of the greatest rivalries of all-time, but it never went down and it seems that's in large part due to HBK doing something to really piss Rock off.

In the year 2000, Wade Keller of the Pro Wrestling Torch landed an interview with The Rock for his newsletter. The Great One was in the prime of his career, and Michaels was currently believed to have been retired after suffering a debilitating back injury. Keller asked him about if he would have any desire to work a program with Michaels if he were able to come back. Rock’s answer was incredibly short and to the point:

"No, I have no desire to work with Shawn. None whatsoever."

Apparently the heat between the two may date back to when Rock was a teenager. His grandmother was a wrestling promoter of Polynesian Pacific Pro Wrestling, and he felt Michaels was being rude to her when he came in for a show during the time period he was teaming with Marty Jannetty. The dislike seemed to go on even longer than that, as in Bret Hart’s book, he claimed that Hunter and Michaels hated Rock during the rising superstar's early days in the WWF.

It sounds like even if both men were in the company during the same time at the later point in their careers, they still wouldn’t have battled. With the clout The Rock had, he could have vetoed a match outright. It’s a bit of a shame we never got to see it happen, but sometimes bad blood trumps business.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
