10 Misconceptions WWE Has About Their Fanbase

2. Fans Have Short-Term Memories

Another pet peeve of many modern pro wrestling fans is WWE's tendency to ignore past events, at times treating recent developments as if they had never taken place.

WWE always believed that most pro wrestling fans lacked long term memory and that their only focus was the here and now. Perhaps that was true at one point, but decades of talents triumphantly returning from injury to deafening crowd responses have proven otherwise. Despite talents being MIA for months, sometimes years, at a time, WWE fans have shown, time and time again, that they remember.

Still, WWE's programming often mirrors the mind of an impatient, inattentive, hyperactive subject rather than the 65 year old entertainment company it claims to be. Despite constant reminders that their fanbase remembers long term events and characters, WWE continues to insult their audience's intelligence by presenting such simple, vapid television.

The most popular TV shows (i.e., Game Of Thrones, Better Call Saul) respected the audience's intelligence and it paid off, just like it did for Vince McMahon once upon a time.

In 2017, WWE's writing doesn't need to be as deep as Thrones or as subtle as Saul, but surely it should require a little more brainpower than the Teletubbies.
