10 MMA Maneuvers Wrestlers Should Use More Often

9. Mae Tobi Geri

Fans of the 1984 martial arts film The Karate Kid surely remember young Daniel LaRusso learning The Crane Kick from karate master Mr Miyagi. It's the very move that helped him overcome his rival Johnny Lawrence with one blow during the final sequence. For most of the bout, Daniel-san was having his ass handed to him until he harnessed all of his remaining energy into one ridiculous-looking kick.

The Crane Kick is a variation of the Mae Tobi Geri, created by Darryl Vidal specifically for the film. And it's a manoeuvre that can be adjusted for the world of sports entertainment. Given to the appropriate superstar, the jump kick could become a devastating signature move, especially since the wrestler won't need to hold the stance long enough for it to be a little goofy.

The move, however, doesn't come without some controversy. The idea of the stance is to appear vulnerable to your opponent, so they are lured into the kick. Standing with your arms raised high and one foot up leaves your head and torso ripe for the taking. Perhaps with some luck, the stance might throw off an opponent enough to land the kick, but the lane of counterattacks from your opponent opens up wide.
