"I'm in remission, y'all."

Roman Reigns uttered those four words upon his poignant return earlier this year, and two meant so much.

"Remission", obviously, meant so much to both the man and the fandom that had ignored the man in a hell-bent, often ugly rejection of his onscreen persona. The psychological trauma Roman endured and the physical obstacles he overcame were apparent in his beaming relief. A human being recovered from a cancer diagnosis. That brings its own reward, far away from the realm of fiction.

The "Y'all" struck an altogether chord, one that quietly strengthened appreciation for the man. These people, almost unanimously, had vocally rejected his painful graft throughout years of intensive main event service, and yet he referred to them collectively, and appreciatively. That is such stuff as heroes are made of.

Those fans are still behind Roman, albeit from a distance, despite WWE literally doubling down on his one-dimensional, derivative characterisation by having him appear across both brands as a victim of management.

Even in WWE, in 2019, you can't make special normal.
