William Regal is a legendary professional wrestler. Taking nothing away from the Blackpool native, but Regal's reign as the 2008 King Of The Ring was poor and it did nothing to help the recently resurrected honor of WWE's King Of The Ring.

After defeating Hornswoggle and Finlay to reach the tournament finals, William Regal was on the verge of winning the crown, cape and scepter, a gimmick fitting of the former Blue Blood. In the finals, Regal became the first WWE superstar to tap CM Punk out, doing so with the Regal Stretch to become king.

Mere weeks after tapping Punk out to win the first King Of The Ring held on Monday Night RAW (more on that later), Regal violated the company's wellness policy and was legitimately suspended for 60 days. This surely killed any momentum Regal might have had as well as any plans that involved the king going forward.

In fact, Regal lost a "You're Fired" match to Mr. Kennedy less than 30 days after becoming the 2008 King Of The Ring, in kayfabe losing his job. That must be some sort of record!

The tournament would disappear for a couple years, and probably should've stayed hidden, but it would once again be brought back on Monday Night RAW.
