9. Hulk Hogan Gets Racist

At WrestleMania IX, Hulk Hogan infamously hijacked the main event and did in 21 seconds what Bret Hart failed to achieve in nine minutes: pin Yokozuna.

It was seen as a baffling display of short-term desperation by the WWF, who sacrificed the credibility of its new top babyface by booking the man he replaced to hog the limelight. This display of egotism wasn't even the worst thing he did on the night.

In a promo before that main event, Hogan droned on and on about the power of Hulkamania, which he then questioned (?) because he looked into Bret Hart's eyes and saw something greater. After questioning himself - and then putting himself over huge (!) - Hogan decided he needed to prove himself all over again. "That's why, right now" he began. "I'm issuing a challenge to either you, or the j*p, brother!" - the "j*p" being the Samoan American Yokozuna. Hogan's grisly black eye didn't help matters. He looked like an evil doppelgänger of himself.

What's more odd about this is that rumours indicate WWE wishes to bring Hogan back into the fold as soon as all of their sponsors feel the heat has died down sufficiently.

It's not as if some executive is going to watch WrestleMania IX - very few if any wrestling fans bother - but still.
