10 MORE Huge "What If" Scenarios In WWE History

9. What If Sting Signed In 2001?

It ultimately went nowhere, but Sting's Survivor Series 2014 debut was an incredible adrenaline rush, and deserves to go down as one of the decade's most memorable moments.

Weak follow-up booking aside, the main problem is that it happened far too late in the WCW icon's career. WWE fans only got to experience a shadow of Sting's former self, but things could've been much, much different had he not knocked back the company's earlier offers.

Sting was one of many wrestlers to reject Vince McMahon's advances following his purchase of WCW in 2001. Joining the company at that time should have given him at least a decade with WWE, allowing him the chance to surpass the glittering legacy he left in Ted Turner's promotion. He would've eventually retired a multi-time WWE champion, a genuine company legend, and yes, that longed-for WrestleMania match with The Undertaker would've been a certainty.

While Sting and WWE profited, TNA would've struggled. Sting was a company centrepiece at the height of his push. His presence gave Impact a unique main event commodity, and while TNA's roster was never short of talent, they'd have experienced a considerable shortfall in star power had Sting signed with WWE instead.
