Matt Hardy's latest run on AEW - and in a rather scaled back manner, his final run in WWE - has highlighted that fans aren't just welcoming of wrestlers working through their old gimmicks but actively in support of it.

As is the case with most entries on this list, there's never been a better time for the wrestlers themselves to experiment too. This era is canon now whether we all wish to admit it or not, but that doesn't mean that wrestlers can't briefly leap out of reality and into whatever world the creative team assemble from one segment to the next.

This year's Money In The Bank was a comedic atrocity for the most part, but nobody questioned the actual silliness for a second. Pro wrestling is literally a product of its environment at present, and it's up to those in charge of it to enliven that environment as they see fit. It meant getting The Undertaker back on his bike at WrestleMania. How about purple gloves at SummerSlam? Triple H seemed to enjoy himself bringing back In Your House, so what's to stop him being the 'Greenwich Snob' for a night and swimming in pig sh*t?
