10 Most Absurd Forgotten Matches In WWE History

4. Johnny Gargano Vs Dexter Lumis - Love Her Or Lose Her

Triple H thinks you remember this. He must do.

It can be the only explanation as to why he spent the second half of 2022 booking Dexter Lumis and Johnny Gargano as old frat buddies terrorising - and eventually losing to - The Miz in a terminally useless angle that got nobody over and actively tarnished the gloss around 'Johnny Wrestling' when he first re-signed.

The pair were bonded by a longstanding series in NXT during the darkest days of the show. Long after AEW Dynamite had comfortably raced ahead in the Wednesday Night War but before the black-and-gold brand got a much-needed 2.0 reset, heel Gargano tried to stand in the way of babyface murder enthusiast Lumis courting grown adult woman Indi Hartwell because he'd cast himself as a father figure.

"Love Her Or Lose Her" - in August 2021 - was set, with the consenting adult's fate apparently decided by the result of the match. It felt incredibly off, and at the last second WWE seemed to actually realise that. Gargano won, but Hartwell rejected the result and went with Lumis all the same. It made a sham of the booking, but the booking had already made a sham of everybody.
