10 Most Alarming Ways WWE Rewrites History
10. All Hail Hunter
Hunter has enjoyed a great wrestling career that has been more successful than 99% of the men and women who have ever stepped into the ring.
However, somewhere along the way, WWE's narrative started to change that he wasn’t just one of the best ever, but that he was quite possibly the greatest of all-time. The announcers would bring it up with a straight face as if it was an actual debate that could be had. The thing is, in absolutely no category whatsoever can Hunter Hearst Helmsley be argued as the best of all time. The statement is actually laughably absurd.
Drawing power? Not even close. Mainstream appeal? Far from it. Best in-ring performer? Hell, his good buddy Shawn Michaels lapped circles around him. Even from a kayfabe standpoint, the man has been beaten by everyone from Daniel Bryan to John Cena, to The Hulkster himself.
The only thing Hunter can lay claim to is taking up more TV time than any WWE wrestler ever has. Is that because he’s the best? Absolutely not. Being the son (or son in law) of a promoter certainly has its advantages. Just ask Jeff Jarrett, Erik Watts and Greg Gagne.
Hunter is damn good, no doubt about it, but the way the company shows such ridiculously high levels of reverence for him is insulting to everyone who was actually a far bigger star than he ever was. Hopefully future generations are aware that his myth is badly overblown. But with the man himself someday taking charge...WWE's history may lean heavily in his favor.
