Ric Flair is regularly called the greatest professional wrestler of all-time for good reason, and he’s been at the heart of some of the sport’s most famous rivalries. His duels with the likes of Dusty Rhodes and Sting are legendary, but the Ricky Steamboat feud is right up there, and it produced a series of matches that few wrestlers can even aspire to better.

Steamboat, the ultimate babyface, defeated Flair at 1989’s Chi Town Rumble to win his first ever World Title. It was widely regarded as the best wrestling match in history at the time, but the beef was far from over. The rematch was set for just a month later, and guess what? It was another barnstormer.

WCW could’ve waited months to pull the rematch trigger, but they created a tremendous amount of buzz by booking it before the first match’s impact had worn off. With Steamboat presented as the honourable family man and Flair a fast-living womaniser, the dynamic was perfect, and WCW’s fan investment had never been higher.

This match - an NWA-style 2/3 falls affair - is a stone cold classic, and a timeless piece of work between two masterful performers. Steamboat took the win in just under an hour, and while they’d wrestle again the following month, nothing could match the hype surrounding this particular rematch.
