This impromptu intergender whirlwind of a match was total carnage - something you’ll never see on WWE TV in the PG Era. That’s both a blessing and a curse.

It started off innocently enough. Edge and Tommy Dreamer exchanged headlock takedowns and Irish whips. It didn’t take long for the weapons to make an appearance; proving that they didn’t do this sort of thing just for the sake of the cameras - they lived it - Mick Foley and Terry Funk brained each other on the top of the head with chair legs. There was no surface area over which to spread the pain, no audible thwack to pop the crowd - just barely visible brutality barely contained in a relentless sprawl.

Edge drilled Dreamer with a ladder that materialised out of nowhere. Even the ponderous, grisly brawling between Foley and Funk was too much for the camera crew to follow with any degree of continuity. Mercifully, Funk’s suicidal ladder bump - he was over 60 at the time - was captured in all of its gruesome glory.

As the pace slowed, the brutality escalated. The ring soon degenerated into a mess of barbed wire, torn flesh, and pools of blood before Funk, the sick beatdown of whom shaped the story, returned to the fray from injury and set Foley on fire with a flaming stick. And then sent him crashing through a barbed wire-wrapped table. As Dreamer Crossfaced Edge with barbed wire choking his neck.

The match itself penetrated the consciousness in an equally sickening manner.
