When a character has the word "warrior" in his name, one can suspect that he is destined to be fairly bizarre. That was most certainly the case with The Ultimate Warrior, who was not only one of WWE's most bizarre but also one of its greatest. Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2014, just days before his untimely death, Ultimate Warrior was introduced to a whole new generation of fans through video packages, top ten countdowns and articles published both on this site and WWE's official website. One of the larger-than-life stars that made Vince McMahon's WWE destination programming in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Warrior captivated fans with his eccentric and unconventional character promo style, energetic entrance and unique look. As beloved as he was, and deservedly so, Warrior was bizarre. No one ever knew exactly what he was trying to say in his promos, even if they perfectly fitted the character. His mannerisms, facial expressions and incessant snorting left older members of the audience wondering exactly what fueled the popular competitor, especially since it was never particularly clear in any of his interviews. It was the air of mystery and the fact that the character never appeared to live on the same planet as the rest of us that made him as popular as he was but, at the same time, added to his considerably bizarre nature.
Erik Beaston is a freelance pro wrestling writer who likes long walks in the park, dandelions and has not quite figured out that this introduction is not for Match.com. He resides in Parts Unknown, where he hosts weekly cookouts with Kane, The Ultimate Warrior, Papa Shango and The Boogeyman. Be jealous.
