5. The Signature Pharmacy Scandal

Just months after the Chris Benoit murder-suicide - for which the role of anabolic steroids was widely blamed by the mainstream media - eleven WWE superstars were implicated in a substance scandal. The group raised the attention of the Albany District Attorney's office after purchasing enhancing substances from online drugstore Signature Pharmacy, prior to WWE introducing their Wellness Policy in the wake of Eddie Guerrero's death.

Amongst the names was Benoit himself, as well as Ken Kennedy, causing widespread humiliation for the organisation in the wake of his public advocacy of WWE's supposedly clean locker-room. Every name to emerge was promptly suspended from the company - with one notable exception: Randy Orton.

Orton, a PPV headliner at the time, was exonerated by his bosses who claimed he'd already served his suspension a year prior. But something was amiss. At a US Congressional Investigation into WWE's business practices, scrutineer Brian Cohen raised the fact that Orton had received somatropin, nadrolone, and stanozolol from a period between 2004 and 2007. WWE evaded the question, eventually releasing a statement in 2010 that Orton hadn't appeared on any list from the DA. Guess it was all a dream, then.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
