10 Most Controversial Wrestlers Of 2017

3. Roman Reigns

For:

Probably the most underrated wrestler on the planet, Roman Reigns throughout 2017 made a mockery of the John Cena comparisons; he is already leagues better than Big Match John was at the same juncture of his career. If their respective matches with Braun Strowman are any indication, Reigns is leagues better, full stop. Cena wrestled Strowman, in a RAW match of rote formula, as if the Monster Among Men was just another generic monster. In comparison, Reigns exploited Strowman's immense athleticism and otherworldly aura to carve out a series of high drama and spectacular visual effects. Promo work improved considerably, but evidently too quietly.

Against:

TV matches are sometimes much of a muchness, though the deadening churn is probably to blame as the irrelevant, biased "moves of doom" accusations. That phase was coined to describe Bret Hart, which should underline how weird the subsequent misappropriation is. While much improved, he's no natural on the stick, homogenising his segments.

Author Verdict:

Just turn him heel. Then, those dissenters will finally have their excuse to see what they must, on some level: that Roman is an unfortunate symptom of the McMahon megalomania disease, not the disease itself.
