Although the post-Attitude era divas division threatened to regress into a pool of easily-interchangeable talent, a few workers were able to bring enough distinctive style and charisma to the ring in order to stand out. One of these was Melina, a natural-born heel with an ear-splitting screech and distinctive ring entrance. Unfortunately, she also proved herself a troublemaker behind the scenes. Backstage reports repeatedly singled out Melina as the source of many an issue, specifically with then-boyfriend Johnny Nitro. She allegedly had the rising star wrapped around her little finger, painting him as weak in the eyes of the notoriously macho Vince McMahon (especially following his passive response to a rumoured affair between Melina and Batista). She also made the mistake of butting heads with highly respected former star Trish Stratus, believing her to be flirting with The Shaman of Sexy. Such controversy would have made Melina's 2011 release an easy decision - but she did win three Women's Championships and a pair of Divas titles in her time with the company.
