10 Most Controversial WWE Firings Ever
1. Dawn Marie
The Holy Grail of controversial WWE releases, the company's decision to let popular valet Dawn Marie go in 2005 still draws heady sighs and angry head-shaking to this very day. To cut a long story short, Dawn Marie was released while she was pregnant.
Dawn Marie's name was another among the mass releases in summer 2005. She was four months pregnant at the time, with fans already somewhat clued-in after her final appearance at ECW One Night Stand that year. It was a despicable move on WWE's part, one that even the most hardened of cynics may have assumed was beneath even them, but nothing is out of the question when it comes to the ruthless cut-throat nature of WWE.
Understandably, Dawn Marie soon filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, citing wrongful termination. The case was reportedly settled in 2007, closing the lid on one of the most shameful business decisions Vince McMahon has ever made, a pretty big claim but an entirely justified one.
Will WWE top these heartless and cruel reasons for firing people in the future? Depressingly, that seems inevitable.
