A man that had no right to attain mainstream success in an industry then infatuated with aesthetic excellence, the haunched and stocky Kevin Sullivan earned his mid-1990s WCW second life thanks to some breathtaking brawls early in the decade.

Honing his bloody craft in Japanese hardcore group Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling and the embryonic ECW, he brought the style to World Championship Wrestling in feuds with Cactus Jack and The Nasty Boys. 1994 saw the crew engage in some of the best North American matches of the year in stark contrast to the wasteland WCW had become for much of the prior few years.

Sullivan's political power within the company ensured he shared the screen with Hulk Hogan for years until his Dungeon Of Doom stable was phased out during the rise of the New World Order. But his own stock only rose thanks to a violent-for-the-time programme with Chris Benoit that saw both lay it in stiff during backstage battles that regularly spilled into bathrooms and backlots.

The original 'Big Kev' infamously booked his own divorce thanks to a storyline he scripted between then-wife Nancy and 'The Crippler', adding gripping heft to their bruising displays.
