10 Most Disappointing Wrestling Entrance Stages Ever
2. Cyber Sunday 2008
The Taboo Tuesday and Cyber Sunday PPVs were the personification of an interesting concept hampered by poor execution. The events never truly delivered the level of control that fans had been sold on and a lot of the early matches felt hokey.
One thing that the initial shows got right was the entrance stage. Evolving from a keyboard inspired ramp to a full mock computer with monitor screen and matching speakers, the whole set was grand yet simple.
WWE changed the design in 2008 from a computer to a Blackberry. The result was overly complicated and felt like an unnecessary upgrade that added nothing to the show.
The new set was very narrow and featured a pair of double doors cut into the body of the phone. The opening appeared out of place and dented the overall aesthetic of the piece. The desired effect was to make the audience feel like their votes were literally coming out of a phone . They could vote for a superstar and watch them emerge minutes later.
It's hard to be too critical of this stage. There was clearly a genuine attempt to try something new but the old adage "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" comes to mind. A slight update, palette change or even some minor additions to the design would have kept the existing stage feeling fresh whilst helping to establish a theme.
2008 was the last Cyber Sunday event and the giant phone currently resides in the famous WWE Warehouse.
