10 Most Disastrous Wrestling Debuts Ever
9. The Ultimate Warrior
Warrior signed for WCW in 1998. He’d been out of the business for two years following his WWE contract’s 1996 expiration, and WCW being WCW, they dangled a big, fat creative control clause to convince him to sign-on. Why they thought this would be a good idea is anyone’s guess, but Warrior immediately inserted himself into the main event scene by creating the oWn (One Warrior Nation), an obvious play on the nWo.
Warrior debuted to a gigantic pop, then proceeded to destroy the moment with one of his typically nonsensical, rambling promos that ran tediously long. By the time Warrior had finished babbling, half the crowd had curled-up for a nap, and the other half had left for a toilet break.
The former WWE Champion had set his WCW run off to the worst possible start but, believe it or not, this was actually the highlight of his 12-week WCW run.
Other incidents saw Warrior kidnapping Brutus Beefcake and regularly using “magic smoke” to knock-out members of the nWo. A terrible match with Hulk Hogan followed, and with the angle sinking like a lead balloon, Warrior was let go from his contract that November.
